Zemplén County is located in the northeastern part of Hungary, in the historical region of Upper Hungary. It is a land of mountains, valleys, dense forests, and picturesque villages, boasting a fascinating historical past and rich cultural heritage.
Zemplén County has been inhabited since ancient times. Archaeologists have discovered traces of human settlements dating back to the Stone Age. Throughout its history, the county was owned by several noble families, including the Drugeth, Perényi, and Rákóczi families.

The turbulent history of the 20th century did not spare Zemplén County either. As a result of the Trianon Peace Treaty, two-thirds of the county’s territory was ceded to Czechoslovakia.
