What is the future of Hungarian society?
This is an old post. Information may be outdated.
As previously reported, the President was forced to resign due to a scandalous pardon case.
The former Minister of Justice, who was implicated in the case, also withdrew from his political career after previously resigning from his ministerial position.
Now, the ex-husband of the minister has released an audio recording in which the ex-minister says that the case files of a criminal case ongoing since October 2022 were reviewed or had been reviewed by another minister or his proxy, and incriminating details were highlighted from the material.
The former Minister of Justice made this statement while still in office.
A brief summary of the criminal case in question:
- György Schadl was the president of the Hungarian Chamber of Bailiffs (MBVK).
- In 2021, he was arrested on charges of corruption and other crimes along with Pál Völner, the then-deputy state secretary of justice.
- According to the charges, Schadl György paid significant sums of money to Völner to give him and his acquaintances an advantage in the appointment of bailiffs.
- The case caused a significant stir and drew attention to the possible corruption in the Hungarian judicial system.
- The investigation and court proceedings are still ongoing.
- The case also stirred up the public, and the indictment was preceded by a lengthy wiretapping.
- In addition to György Schadl, 21 other people, mostly bailiffs, were charged with corruption offenses during the indictment.
At the time, the Minister of Justice denied his involvement, however, according to the released audio recording, he was also warned by his deputy to stop because he was being watched, but he continued his actions for which he is now on trial.
According to the government party, nothing happened, it was just the revenge action of a divorced, offended man.
The former Minister of Justice claims that she was a victim of domestic violence during their marriage, but has not yet disputed the content of her statements on the recording.
According to statements by parties not in government responsibility, the Prosecutor General and the minister involved should resign.
According to Péter Magyar, who made and released the recording, this is the last chance for the ruling party to crack down on systemic political and economic corruption, otherwise the party will lose all moral dignity.
On March 15, Péter Magyar was able to mobilize tens of thousands of people and intends to run in the European Parliament elections and later in the parliamentary elections with an unnamed party.
At the call of Péter Magyar, on March 26, several thousand people took to the streets in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office to express their desire for a detailed investigation of the criminal case in question and to demand the resignation of the Prosecutor General.
